We're delighted to introduce the man behind Eventing Edge and share his insights into what it takes to create truly memorable events and weddings.
1. What are the biggest mistakes people make when planning an event or celebration?
One of the biggest mistakes is focusing too much on “things” instead of feelings. People get caught up in trends, styling and trying to impress, and forget to ask: How do we want people to feel?
Another mistake is overcomplicating the experience. The best events usually have warmth, flow and ease. Guests should feel welcomed, relaxed and connected, not overwhelmed.
And finally, people underestimate timing and energy. A great event needs rhythm. It should unfold within the timeframe but allow moments to breathe.
2. When creating a truly memorable event, what do you believe guests remember most?
People remember how an event made them feel. Always.
They remember the atmosphere, the conversations, the music at the right moment, the laughter around the table and the feeling of being fully present.
The most memorable events create emotional connection. That’s what stays with people long after the flowers and menus are forgotten.
3. How important is the venue in shaping the overall experience of an event?
The venue is incredibly important because it sets the emotional tone from the moment guests arrive.
A great venue has personality, warmth and a sense of place. It should feel aligned with the experience rather than just acting as a backdrop.
That said, it’s never only about the space itself. The atmosphere, hospitality and energy inside the room are what truly bring an event to life.
4. What are some of the biggest trends you are currently seeing across weddings, corporate events and private celebrations?
People are craving experiences that feel more meaningful, immersive and connected.
We’re seeing a move away from overly staged events and toward gatherings that feel intentional and personal. There’s also a strong shift toward destination style celebrations, long table dining, relaxed luxury and multi day experiences.
In the corporate space especially, businesses are looking for experiences that inspire connection and wellbeing rather than traditional conference formats.
5. How do you balance creating an event that feels visually stunning while still feeling personal and authentic?
For me, styling should support the story, not overpower it.
The most beautiful events are the ones that genuinely reflect the people at the centre of them. Guests can always feel when something has thought and heart behind it.
Luxury today is less about excess and more about atmosphere, detail and intention. That’s where authenticity comes from.
6. What advice would you give someone planning a luxury event in a regional location like the Capricorn Coast?
Lean into the beauty and personality of the destination rather than trying to recreate a city event.
Regional events work best when they feel connected to the landscape, the pace and the local experience. Guests want to feel transported and immersed in something different.
My advice would be to prioritise guest comfort, allow flexibility in the schedule and embrace the relaxed energy that regional destinations naturally offer… And always focus on a local menu with fresh produce from the land and the seas.
7. How has social media changed the way people approach events and entertaining?
Social media has raised visual expectations, but it has also created pressure for events to become performances rather than experiences.
The irony is that the moments people connect with most online are usually the genuine ones. The laughter, emotion and atmosphere always land more strongly than something that feels overly staged.
The best events still focus on creating real human connection first.
8. What elements instantly elevate an event from “nice” to truly exceptional?
Attention to detail and emotional intelligence.
Exceptional events feel effortless from the guest perspective. Great lighting, beautiful music, seamless timing, incredible food and warm service all contribute to that feeling.
It’s often the subtle things that elevate an experience. The pacing of the night, the energy in the room and the feeling that guests are genuinely being cared for. All of this however does need to be thought along the planning journey.
9. For corporate events specifically, what are businesses now looking for beyond the traditional conference or function format?
Businesses are increasingly looking for connection, creativity and experience.
People no longer want to sit through generic conferences in formal spaces all day. They want interaction, conversation and environments that feel more human.
We’re seeing more retreats, immersive dining experiences, wellness integration and events designed to strengthen culture and relationships rather than simply deliver information.
10. If budget was no limitation, what is one event experience or detail you believe every host should invest in?
Without hesitation, hospitality and atmosphere.
You can have the most beautiful styling in the world, but if guests don’t feel welcomed, relaxed and emotionally engaged, the event won’t truly resonate.
I would always invest in exceptional food, music, lighting and service because those are the elements that shape memory and emotion. That’s what transforms an event into something unforgettable.
